The Rohrer Family |
When the renters moved out November, 2005, we thought it was high time to tear it down and make way for a "real" home.
We don't have any plans yet because we didn't know if we were going to be building on top of our own "Half Dome" or on ground that could be leveled without blasting. These first photos are of the aged beast just before demolition.

Demolition begins with the removal of the roof sheathing. The 2x6 tongue-in-groove material was salvaged for possible construction of a workshop or car barn. Bettina, Eric and Marliss finished the scary part of the roof on Tuesday after Christmas.

Once the last of the boards were down, the rafters were next. David muscled them to the deck, while Marliss filled the dump truck/trailer. She also pulled nails from the mountain of usable firewood.

After the rafters and patio were out of the way, we started removing siding and windows. Underneath the plywood was a layer of insulation revealing a very ugly aluminum-sided mobile home. Bettina came up for a week in early February and once again volunteered her efforts. Here we see her unbolting the last of some beams and unscrewing aluminum siding.

It snowed President's Day 3-day weekend, but that didn't stop David from ripping out the kitchen and both bathrooms.
